Logitech
pioneered the keyboard screen in its G15 keyboards, and the feature was quickly
picked up by the homebrew crowd, who designed their own bespoke apps for it.You
might be a little confused by the fact that this is by far the most expensive
keyboard in this little test, and that it’s also the only lowly membrane switch
device we’ve included. But looky here, there’s an LED screen sitting above the function
keys.
The G19s has
been out for long enough that you might expect some interesting little applets
to have come out of the woodwork, but aside from a few PC monitoring apps and a
BF4 companion there’s little of real interest. Certainly nothing that would
make you want to drop this sort of money on a gaming keyboard without the
robust nature of mechanical switch keys.
Having spent a
long time using nothing but mechswitch boards, it’s a real struggle going back
to the ol’ membrane technology. The action on the keys feels incredibly limp,
however much quieter it might be. It’s not just the feel of the mechanical
switch that has converted us, though – it’s also the fact that the keys on a
Corsair K70 are rated to last up to five times longer than the membrane
switches on the G19s. That makes it even harder to swallow the price difference
between the two.
